Budde Music

Budde Music represents major catalogues from around the world such as Songs Music, Greensleeves, Downtown Music (all from the USA), Edizioni Curci (Italy), Editions Raoul Breton (France), Reverb Music, Faber and Chelsea Music Publishing (UK) and Fuji Pacific (Asia). In 1975, after the untimely death of its founder Rolf, his older son Andreas joined the company and began to actively expand the creative department and develop the future ethos of the company. It is from Budde Music’s 1966 (and still current) office space that Andreas Budde expanded the studio (a.k.a. Studio 54a, no less) to co-produce the band Alphaville, who he discovered. The resulting songs ‘Forever Young’  and ‘Big In Japan’ have remained two of the biggest successes for the company.

We are proud that a close co-operation with Alphaville continues to this day. In 1983, younger brother and trained lawyer, Rolf Budde entered the company fold as managing director and has since achieved a very respected status in the German music industry, as a member of the GEMA supervisory board, vice president of the Independent Music Publishers Forum and now president of the German Music Publishers Association.  Toward the end of the ’80s, Andreas spent more and more time in the US where he founded U.S. subsidiaries Budde Music Inc. and Budde Songs Inc.

Shortly after the sad loss of Andreas Budde in 2007, Benjamin Budde completed his apprenticeship with independent Schacht Music Publisher in Hamburg and then Cherry Lane in New York, and then began to build the Budde Music creative team as it it today,  and now is also co-managing director with an emphasis on signing and working with both young and more established composers, writers, artists and producers. By employing the German Edition deal structure, along with administrated publisher catalogues and the company’s own direct signings via a very active and hungry A & R department, Budde Music is proud to be, through an internationally renowned and unique range of songs and writers, one of the largest independent music publishers in the world.
