We caught up with Rachel Barton, Founder and MD of Grape to find out more about their remarkable audio production company.
Grape is one of UK’s leading audio production companies. How did the concept and name of Grape first come about?
I’d love to share an incredible story behind the meaning of the name, but the truth is that for weeks I couldn’t decide what to call the company and one night I went to my local pub for a glass of wine and somehow decided that I liked the word ‘grape’ – it’s a short, strong and phonetically pleasing word (not to mention that I like drinking wine haha) – and the name stuck!
Grape has worked with a wide variety of clients such as Spotify, BBC Sounds, Red Bull Music and numerous music artists and influencers. What would you say are some of the highlights the team is most proud of?
With 10 years in business there are so many highlights we are proud of but a couple that stand out include being commissioned by Radio 1 to produce Pete Tong’s weekly show (as I produced his show for many years when working internally at the BBC, bringing The Blessed Madonna (a DJ that we had worked with for years) to Saturday nights on BBC 6 Music and being commissioned by Spotify to make Who We Be TALKS_ a podcast celebrating black music and culture.
Storytelling and entertainment audiences are your speciality. What’s the process to help your clients achieve their desired goals?
Finding out who the target audience is and who they want to connect with, tailoring the strongest creative treatment and ensuring the final audio product is of the highest quality.
Your team have joined our wonderful creative community here at Tileyard, Kings Cross. Why did you choose Tileyard as your new home?
For the community feel with like-minded businesses, the access to the TYX studio complex when needed and the great food/drink in the Vinyl Cafe and Campfire.
Do you have any exciting projects bubbling away under the surface that you can share with us?
There are lots of new commissions we are working on, some of which are launching very soon!
