We are excited to welcome Trailmix as a new member of our Tileyard community!

London games studio Trailmix started their journey back in 2017, when co-founders Caro and Tristan set out on a mission to combine great storytelling with the best in free-to-play mobile gaming. 

Their move to Tileyard comes hot on the heels of the international release of their award-winning first game – Love & Pies. 

We caught up with Tristan and Caro about their team, their vision, and their debut game. 

What drove you to create Trailmix? 

We first met when we helped to set up the London studio for King (the company behind Candy Crush), and spent five years working there on free-to-play puzzle games for mobile. When we founded Trailmix, it was with the aim of reaching the people who wouldn’t normally play mobile games, but who enjoyed compelling stories on tv, in books, and in movies. We wanted to show those audiences that there are awesome stories and diverse characters available to enjoy on their phones, too. 

What is the story behind the name, Trailmix? 

We make games that are snackable yet nourishing – just like Trailmix 

Can you tell us about the Trailmix team? 

We’re both pretty ambitious, so our other goal when we set up Trailmix was to create an environment in which people could inspire and push each other to create the best work out there. We’re so happy that we’ve been able to build a team of incredibly talented creatives who share the same vision as us. We have people from all over the world working at Trailmix, and couldn’t be prouder of what they’ve achieved so far. We recently calculated that our team has over 200 years of experience in their disciplines, which is incredible! 

Why mobile games? 

We think there’s something special about being able to carry your favourite stories and puzzles around in your pocket. You can play mobile games when you’re feeding a baby, commuting to work, binge-watching a show or even sitting on the toilet! There’s something really democratic in mobile gaming, too, especially the free-to-play sector. All you need is a phone and ten minutes and you can immerse yourself in another world, no matter who or where you are. 

Tell us about Love & Pies 

In Love & Pies we’ve combined puzzles, cafe renovations and a compelling narrative into a distinct gaming experience. Our puzzle lets players ‘merge’ cute cafe desserts and drinks to help customers and get rewards. Players can then spend the rewards on upgrading a cafe, and solving a cosy mystery with a romantic twist! We were really pleased when Love & Pies won ‘Best Casual Game’ at the 2021 TIGA awards, as it’s a reflection of the creativity and dedication from our team.

Love & Pies tells the story of single mum Amelia, who returns to her family cafe only to find it on fire and her own mother missing, presumed responsible for the arson attack. Amelia needs to work hard to prove her mum’s innocence while rebuilding the cafe. Throw in some quirky locals, handsome exes, nasty nemesis and a telenovela twist and you have the bones of our story! We highly recommend you play it to find out for yourself, though… 

How are you enjoying life at Tileyard? 

We love it! Before the pandemic, we had our own office in Camden, and while it was a nice space we quickly outgrew it. The move out of lockdown and into a more fluid, hybrid way of working was the perfect opportunity to find a new home for our team, and we couldn’t be happier that we found Tileyard. It’s been great for all of us to move to a space like this, and especially to feel part of such a vibrant community after working from home for so long. The energy suits us perfectly, as does the location, and we can’t wait to meet more of our neighbours here.   

What’s coming up for 2022? 

Between the launch of Love & Pies and our move to Tileyard, 2021 was an epic year for us. For 2022 we plan to keep growing the team in our beautiful new studios, while giving players even more of what they’ve been enjoying so far. We won’t reveal any spoilers, but it’s safe to say that we have lots of exciting plans for the story and gameplay. Stay tuned!
