Small Green Shoots (SGS), ‘The Finishing School for the Music Industry’ which provides training and supports young people from diverse backgrounds to build careers in the creative industries is now based at Tileyard.
SGS has two acclaimed training and development programmes: ‘Short Sharp Shot’ and ‘Young Shoots’. Based at SGS’s Tileyard location, both are bespoke, designed and tailored to skill up and develop young people aged 16-24 from disadvantaged backgrounds (not in employment, education or training). The programme content is built around the needs of the individual and demands of the fast-moving music and creative industry sectors.
On the welcoming of Small Green Shoots to the community, Tileyard co-founder Paul Kempe says, “We are incredibly excited to be a supporter of this programme with Small Green Shoots. Natalie Wade and her team have consistently impressed with their standard of work they deliver across the sector, and it’s a game-changing opportunity for the right applicants.”
Tileyard co-founder Nick Keynes added, “Our ambition is to make real, transformative change to the lives of young people from disadvantaged backgrounds in our local community. This partnership with Small Green Shoots is the next stage of our ambition to help and support a new generation of business leaders within the creative sectors. One of the most powerful things about Tileyard is our world-class community of innovators, pioneers and game changers. We can’t wait to welcome successful applicants into this environment and help them thrive.”
While with at SGS the Young People are treated as paid employees (thereby removing a huge barrier to entry) and are given access and training to industry-specific software such as DISCO, and Chartmetrics alongside workshops and presentations on digital and content production, administration and personal development learning.
When they are ready SGS finds them a suitable placement in an industry house, whether large or small. Recent placements have been at Sony 4th Floor Creative, Tap Management, MMF, Method Management, Wasserman, Audio Network, Atlantic Records, Wieden & Kennedy and PPL amongst others. SGS continues to nurture, develop and support them throughout their placement with supervision from two Youth Coordinators.
On the partnership Small Green Shoots Founder, Natalie Wade said “The creative buzz at Tileyard London is just one of the many reasons we moved our Small Green Shoots office here. It became instantly apparent that this sort of environment could change the trajectory for many young business owners who lack access to the right help and support, so we are beyond delighted to be partnering with Tileyard London to deliver their vision for Tileyard and equip the next generation with the skills and tools to build their own futures.”
SGS founder Natalie Wade and newly appointed MD Makeda McMillan share the vision for the organisation to thrive in the Tileyard community and actively wish to build awareness, opportunities and partnerships so it can continue to be the leading platform for successful career pathways for those who traditionally lack such opportunities.
